Josh McDermott

Owner

After graduating from the University of Missouri-Columbia, College of Business, Josh worked for a time in pharmaceutical sales. But construction has always been a part of who he is. Even before he knew what remodeling was, he could often be found accompanying his dad for truck rides to jobsites and lumberyards. At 15, his father introduced him to the remodeling “business,” and since that time Josh has enjoyed watching how transforming someone’s home or business also helps transform their lives.

In the fall of 2015, his father handed over the reins of the company to his son. For Josh, it’s always been about relationships. As J.T. McDermott’s 2nd generation owner, he believes nothing matters more than the enduring friendships that are built with the homeowners he serves. “If I can help both our clients grow and the team grow, everything else will take care of itself.”

Besides his university degree, Josh is also a Certified Graduate Remodeler. A deep belief in giving back runs through Josh’s personal and business life. He serves as a business mentor to community high school students, and supports a number of philanthropic causes including animal welfare, arts and culture, domestic violence, economic empowerment, education, environment, and health.

When he isn’t involved in running the business, Josh loves to spend a lot of time with family and friends cooking. He also enjoys traveling, boating and sailing on Lake of the Ozarks, and running on the weekends with his wife, Victoria – they both do a few half-marathons a year. But today, nothing brings more joy to Josh and his wife’s life than the time they get to spend with their young daughter, Lyla.

Diane Mueller

Accounting and Finance Manager
2015

When Diane isn’t swimming in paperwork as our accounting and finance manager, she’s training at an O’Fallon, IL pool for the June 2017 Senior Olympics. Diane took up swimming in 2013 and, in her first ever competition in 2016, qualified for eight races, including the 100-meter freestyle, backstroke, breast-stroke and butterfly; three 50 meter events; and the 100-meter individual medley.

A CPA, Diane joined McDermott Remodeling in 2015. She finds analyzing financial statements, what she calls the heartbeat of the company, as the most interesting part of her job. She is a Magna cum laude graduate of McKendree College and has worked for Anheuser-Busch/Inbev, Grossman Iron and Steel, and Ralcorp. She and her husband, Mike, have three grown children.

Ron Mifflin

Estimator
2006

Ron laughs whenever he says his job is to be the bearer of the cold hard facts for remodeling projects. Ron is the resident numbers cruncher, helping clients meet their budget and get the remodel they’ve dreamed of. He considers himself the “man behind the curtain” who’s always looking out for the best interests of the client.

Both his father and grandfather were carpenters and Ron worked for his dad during high school summer breaks. His career includes graduating from the Carpenters Apprenticeship Program and working on several high profile construction projects in the St. Louis area. Ron and his wife, Kary, have four children. He enjoys golf, fishing, hunting, and attending concerts.

Megan Gerdes

Interior Designer
2014

Megan’s interest in interior design was sparked at a young age. As a four-year old, she loved going to restaurants with her parents and looking at how the restrooms were decorated. The interest blossomed and after high school she went on to study interior design at Chicago’s Illinois Institute of Art. Her passion for design extends beyond her workplace. In her free time, Megan enjoys all types of crafts, including knitting, crocheting, and rehabbing/reupholstering furniture.

For Megan, the most interesting aspect of her job is space planning. For her, an empty basement or a soon-to-be-remodeled kitchen is a blank canvas, just waiting for her to fill it with beauty and functionality.

Brittany Allen

Interior Designer
2015

Brittany’s fascination with interior design was sparked by DIY television programs. “That would be fun to do,” she remembers thinking. When she learned that people were actually paid for such work, her career choice was decided. Brittany received her interior design degree in 2010 and recently earned her kitchen and bathroom certifications. She sees her job as much more than just picking out pretty colors and materials – it also involves exact measurements, plenty of planning, and determining how to have a space accurately reflect the lifestyle of its occupants.

Brittany and her husband, David, welcomed a son in 2016 and tending to his needs leaves her little free time. Avid foodies, when the couple does go out on their own, they love exploring new area restaurants.

Dave Dermody

Lead Craftsman
1988

Dave Dermody knew at an early age that he wanted to be carpenter. Inspired by his father who was a millwright, he took on his first major project when he was 16 years old by building a shed for his aunt that still stands today.

Dave joined Foppe-McDermott Remodeling-- the precursor to today’s company-- 29 years ago at a time when he was working as a maintenance man at an apartment complex. Those skills have come full circle as, in addition to his carpentry work, Dave heads “Service by McDermott,” which provides routine house maintenance for a host of clients.

Dave is thankful that the skills he has acquired from this position have afforded him the ability to give back to his community. Some of his favorite projects include building dugouts at the Wolf Branch Middle School softball fields and volunteering at the construction of Swansea Kingdom playground. He loves to help friends and family with remodeling projects, and he has enjoyed coaching numerous youth sports teams, such as soccer, softball, and basketball.

Dave and his wife Robin have three daughters. Lauren will be attending University of Missouri- St. Louis to earn her doctorate in optometry, Amanda will be attending Gulf Coast College to play competitive softball, and Allison will begin high school at Belleville East.

Dean Huston

Production Manager
1988

When Dean isn’t managing our remodeling projects, he’s combining his talents as a carpenter with his love of music. Dean is not only a drummer who plays in his church’s band, but a drum maker as well. He uses his vast knowledge of woodworking, angles for bearing edges, and acoustics to build complete drum sets. Dean dismisses the idea that it’s a complex process – he sees it as “simple math.” In addition to traditional drums, he’s also created Peruvian Cajon box and bongo drums.

Dean has been with McDermott Remodeling since its beginnings. Up until three years ago, he was one of our lead carpenters, but now assists his counterparts with their projects. Dean prefers and enjoys being involved with all the firm’s projects rather than just the ones he was assigned to in the past. Dean and his wife are the proud parents of a daughter who’s currently studying forensic anthropology at St. Louis University.

Rob Ledee

Lead Craftsman
2011

Except for a four-year stint in the U.S. Marine Corps, Rob’s been a carpenter since high school graduation. His high school shop teacher, whose father owned Gossert Construction in Millstadt, noticed Rob’s knack for the trade and recruited Rob for a job with the company. For a time, Rob worked with an area realtor to help prepare houses to be flipped, often gutting a home and putting it back together before it went back on the market. Rob’s exceptional talent is in trim work, a meticulous process that gives a room its “wow factor.” It’s a beautiful finishing detail that Rob says cannot be rushed.

Andrew Sheeley

Craftsman
2019

To Andrew, McDermott Remodeling represents a new way to learn how to do projects on his own. His favorite part of the job so far has been either framing or putting up cedar siding. Depending on how nice the weather is, he likes to work with plants such as shaping trees, propagating house plants, etc. Zen!
